Job Purpose:

Varsity College, an educational brand of The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd is a registered private higher education institution.

The Sandton campus has a vacancy for a Junior HR Officer (Fixed Term Contract)

The duties of the Junior HR Officer include:

  • HR function: administration of staff and lecturer documentation and files including induction files, payroll forms, staff leave, lecturers monthly claims
  • Dealing with HR related queries and issues on campus
  • Monthly processing and submission of permanent staff payroll and lecturers payroll
  • Monthly processing and submission of staff leave forms
  • PA function: assistant to the campus Principal with administrative duties
  • PR function: co-ordination and preparation for campus events relating to staff and lecturer's events/functions/conferences/workshops and training.
  • Minute taking for campus meetings (Occupational health and safety meetings,  student and lecturer forums, disciplinary hearings and staff meetings)
  • Assisting with arrangements for campus orientation as and when required
  • Ordering and control of campus stationery and stock for staff and lecturers
  • Occupational health and safety administration support
  • Campus specific ad hoc administration duties

Competencies:

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Must be methodical/ systematic with an eye for detail
  • Experience in Word/ Excel essential
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Superior organizational and administrative skills
  • Best suited to a service oriented person
  • Ability to cope well in a pressurized/ deadline driven environment
  • High initiative and problem solving skills
  • Excellent follow up skills

Education:

  • Post matric qualification in relevant field, 3 year degree

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years€™ experience in PA, PR and or HR field advantageous

Working Conditions:

  • Must have own car and valid driver€™s license
